guess what it’s a movie everyone gets to enjoy it u elitist jerk

were u born with innate knowledge of said book/film no you had to learn about it at one point too and people didn’t exclude U

i’m personally a huge fan of movies from classic books just like i’m a fan of kindles bc if these are things that can get people who wouldn’t otherwise to read then YES, GO FOR IT.

and i honestly think movies DO help people (esp. teenagers?) get into reading things! why would u not want that?!

“fandoms” shouldn’t have barriers to restrict people from entering. if you like a thing, YOU CAN LIKE A THING

how many movies have you seen/liked where you didn’t read the book before? the idea itself is ridiculous, esp if limited to only “classic” novels

this is the great gatsby. all of the people you are referring to have READ THIS BOOK BEFORE. THIS IS REQUIRED READING FOR 99.999% OF HIGH SCHOOLERS AND ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS WORKS OF AMERICAN LIT EVER

idk i guess it just reminds me of the whole “girls can never really be nerds- they just dress up in costumes to impress guys” like the amount of knowledge people have about a certain thing is a spectrum don’t set a limit on how much you have to know i’m sure you don’t know everything about the thing right?

because you don’t HAVE to be openly critical of it

there is an enormous difference between being an apologist for something and wanting to dwell on the good parts of a thing you like because it makes you happy, please stop conflating these two things

not talking about the flaws of a thing does not mean you do not recognize the flaws of a thing

nobody has to apologize for liking what they like and nobody should be shamed for liking a thing

your fave is problematic too

also

you are not a better person than someone just because your favorite piece of media is less problematic than theirs

you aren’t
